Issues & Positions

  1. NO TAX INCREASES

President Reagan once said, "Some people have never met a tax they wouldn't hike." Well, I am NOT one of those people. Our residents, businesses, and working men and women already contribute more than enough. We must always resist the call to raise taxes and also lower or eliminate existing taxes whenever possible. We must be responsible with what we already collect and reallocate our budgetary priorities accordingly from time to time to live within our means.

  2. PREVENT SPRAWL & OVERDEVELOPMENT

Demand for housing and commercial development in our area is growing rapidly and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. Our quality of life depends upon curbing unchecked growth. We must always insist upon reliable traffic, water, and sewer capacity analysis before even considering expansion, and those studies must always be available for public scrutiny. By all means, we should welcome newcomers, but at the same time, we have to preserve the charm and agreeable environment that drew us here in the first place.

  3. SUPPORT OUR POLICE, FIRE COMPANIES & FIRST RESPONDERS

I am 100% committed to supporting and adequately funding the dedicated men and women who risk life and limb every day to keep our citizens safe and our communities livable. Public safety is the first responsibility of local government, and local officials are obligated to give top priority to the provisioning of police, fire, and emergency medical services.

  4. PROMOTE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT DISTRICTS (TIDs)

We must take action to alleviate the horrendous traffic bottlenecks and poor road conditions that we've been saddled with as a result of years of neglect from previous County leadership. A TID targets a specific geographic problem area to improve the existing road system. Using this model, our communities can accomplish more in the way of revitalizing our road and highway network by working together than they can by acting independently.

  5. PROTECT INDIVIDUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

I'm a big fan of our U.S. Constitution, and that includes the 5th Amendment, which says in part, "nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation." If the county deems it necessary to appropriate private land for public use (such as Buffer Zones), it must adequately compensate the deed holders of that land.

  6. FOSTER RESPONSIBLE ECONOMIC GROWTH & OPORTUNITY

Our children should not grow up with the expectation that upon finishing school and reaching adulthood, they'll have to move away in order to enjoy decent job prospects and career opportunities. That's why in addition to committing to meaningful investments in infrastructure, our County government must promote and encourage a pro-business environment.

  7. SAFEGUARD OUR AGRICULTURAL HERITAGE

Our farmers are the foundation of Sussex County's largest and most historically important industry. Unfortunately, their voices are all too often drowned out by constant marketing and advertising from inter-state corporations, financial institutions, and others who are governed by self-serving, short-sighted agendas. As your County Councilman, I will always defend the interests of agriculture and protect farm businesses.
